Ryan Dempster hosted several children who attended a summer speech and language camp at the Cubs vs Braves game on Friday, August 20th. The camp, held in the Lincoln Park/DePaul area provides intensive therapy for a variety of children with speech and language disorders, including children with 22Q and is directed by Speech-Language Pathologist, Judith A. LeDuc.
One of this year’s camp themes was “Important People in Sports.”
“The children learned that famous also meant genuine, and Ryan was that for them,” said LeDuc. ”Their time with Ryan allowed them to use some of their new vocabulary — dugout, pitcher’s mound, to name a few.”
The autographed baseballs they received and a chance to have pictures with Ryan on the field and in the dugout made this a memorable event for all of these children- something they will never forget.
LeDuc commented, “You have no idea of the impact meeting Ryan had on the children. He was extremely gracious and engaging.”
