Dog-a-holics Dog Boutique’s “Doggy Dugout Night” Raises $2000 to Support the Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation

Ryan Dempster and his dog Wrigley helped to raise $2000 for the Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation at “Doggy Dugout Night” at the Dog-a-holics Dog Boutique in Chicago on Thursday, April 15, 2010. The event was held to help kick off the baseball season and to raise awareness for the Chicago Cubs pitcher’s Foundation, which supports children with a 22q11.2 deletion (DiGeorge Syndrome/VCFS).  About 60 customers and their dogs were able to take photos with Ryan and Wrigley, get Ryan’s autograph, and even a “paw print” from Wrigley.  All participants were treated to free pizza courtesy of D’AGostino’s Pizza and Pub and had a chance to win raffle prizes including Cubs game tickets, gift certificates to local restaurants and much more!

“Ryan and Jenny’s pets (Wrigley, Farley, Teddy, Baxter, Chuck & Larry) are some of our favorite customers and we wanted to give to their foundation the best way we could. Our customers, with two legs and with four, include a large amount of Cubs fans who loved meeting Ryan and Wrigley,” explained Candace Canty, owner of Dog-a-holics. “Ryan and Jenny consistently support their local community and it’s only fitting that we support them back”. The Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness of 22q11.2 Deletion (DiGeorge Syndrome) and reaching out to families with children with the disorder, and the charities that support them, to help them deal with difficult situations they face each day.  The Dempster Family Foundation strives to lend support through monetary grants, programs and increased community awareness through the following ways:   providing funding to continue research to early detection of the illness in children, supporting continuing education about their illness, and encouraging programs suggesting physical activity to ensure long term well being and build confidence in these children.  For more information about the Dempster Family Foundation, please visit their website at: www.dempsterfoundation.org
