
The Third Annual Dempster Foundation Casino Night, held at the Palmer House, was a great success, raising awareness for 22q and other children’s charities in Chicagoland. Thanks to the Dempster Family Foundation team who joined over 5000 walkers in the 2012 March of Dimes March for Babies in Chicago, Sunday April 29th. The team, comprised of Foundation staff and volunteers, and several 22q families, raised over $2500 in the effort to support happier, healthier babies.

Families traveled from all over the states of Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee to support the cause. The day was a wonderful way for families to interact with one another, take photos and build new friendships. The Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation along with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Zoo Atlanta teamed up again to “Strike out 22q” as one of the Zoos that participated in the Worldwide Awareness Day.

Dempster visited with NBC, WGN, 101.9 THE MIX and ESPN in the morning to share the exciting lineup of the evening and announce the entertainment: Chicago’s Own Crooner, the wonderful John Vincent and singer/songwriter Crystal Bowersox from American Idol Season 9.

In celebration of the opening of the Cubs 2012 Season, Finley Dunne’s Tavern hosted the 15th Annual “Eve of the Opener” on Wednesday, April 4th.

Saturday, March 24th was Dempster Family Foundation Awareness Day at HoHokam Park when the Cubs played host to the San Diego Padres. The Foundation invited children with 22q and their familes along with staff from the Cardon Children’s Medical Center PICU department to the game. Ryan met with the families and medical staff prior to the game to sign autographs and pass out Dempster Family Foundation trinkets.

Recently, Ryan and Jenny Dempster along with members from the Dempster Family Foundation team visited the future Children’s Memorial Hospital for a Hard Hat tour.

Ryan and Jenny Dempster and the Dempster Family Foundation are proud to announce their Evening at the Palm was a great success thanks to their wonderful and generous friends and foundation supporters. Celebrity guests including new Cubs President of Baseball Operations, Theo Epstein, new General Manager Jed Hoyer, former GM Jim Hendry, and Comcast SportsNet broadcaster and former Cub, Todd Hollandsworth joined Ryan and Jenny at the event. Over $28,000 was raised for the Dempster Family Foundation and other children’s charities in the Chicagoland area.

The Dempster Family Foundation hosted a visit at Turner Field with 22q patients from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta while the Cubs were in town the weekend of Aug. 12. Ryan met with 22q families, shared stories, signed autographs and took photos before the Cubs-Braves game, as a kickoff to the 22q Awareness Tour.

Guest mixed and mingled with Chicago Cubs players as well as other celebrities from the sports and entertainment world who served as guest dealers at the casino tables. They also bid on one-of-a-kind auction packages and experiences. Casino Night raised money and awareness to help families who are affected by 22q, also known as DiGeorge Syndrome.

Ryan Dempster’s Family and Friends in Canada teamed up to help The Dempster Family Foundation Canada “Strike Out 22q” at the Dempster Foundation Canada Golf Tournament on June 18, 2011.

Over 130 individuals who either support and/or live with 22q participated in “22q at the Zoo World Wide Awareness Day” at Lincoln Park Zoo!

On May 22, 2011, Zoo Atlanta, The Dempster Family Foundation and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, welcomed more than 220 22q guests to a day at the Zoo!

On April 22, the Dempster Family Foundation and Chicago Cubs hosted 22q Awareness Day at Wrigley Field.

Fans continued to celebrate the opening weekend of the Cubs 2011 season at Candyality on Sunday, April 3 while raising funds for The Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation.

Cubs fans celebrated the opening of the Cubs 2011 season at Finley Dunne’s Tavern in Chicago at their 14th annual “Eve of the Opener” on Thursday, March 31 while raising funds for a good cause.

The photo shoot for the book came together so quickly photographer Bob Milkovich had only a couple of days to prepare. But, thanks to his creativity and the players’ spontaneity during the shoot, the end result came out better than he could have imagined!

The Dempster Family Foundation exhibited at the 2011 Cubs Convention, the weekend of January 14-16, 2011. Thousands of Cubs fans visited the booth throughout the weekend to learn more about the Foundation and its efforts to raise funds and awareness for children and families affected by 22q11.2 deletion. Although Ryan and his wife Jenny were in Arizona awaiting the birth of their third child, several current and former Cubs players stood in for Ryan with autograph sessions at the booth.

In a melodic marriage of baseball and the blues, longtime Chicago blues band Lil’ Ed and the Blue Imperials performed at Buddy Guy’s Legends Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, to a full house, to help raise funds for the Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation. Chicago Cubs pitcher Justin Berg made a cameo appearance to support his teammate and thrill the crowd.

Chicago Cubs Pitcher Ryan Dempster was on hand to cheer on the Loyola Ramblers Men’s Basketball team when they took on the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday, December 11th at the Gentile Center. Fans were also treated to a special halftime show when Ryan donned his ABA Flint Michigan Tropics garb to portray the outrageous Jackie Moon from the movie “Semi-Pro”.

Supporters of 22q families in Philadelphia kicked off the Halloween weekend with a Haunted Halloween Party fundraiser. Over $4,000 was raised to benefit the 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome Foundation. The event was held at Finnegan’s Wake, a former coffin making facility! Attendees participated in casino games, dining, dancing, silent auction and raffle and an array of costume contests all to help Strike Out 22q!

The First Annual Insight Network Logistics / ShipCarsNow Charity Golf Outing was held on October 12, 2010. After postponing the outing from September 28 because of bad weather, tournament planners were relieved when October 12 turned out to be a gorgeous, sunny autumn day with temperatures reaching the high 60’s by late afternoon.

More than 150 suburbanites raised almost $4,000 for the Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation.

Ryan Dempster hosted several children who attended a summer speech and language camp at the Cubs vs Braves game on Friday, August 20th. The camp, held in the Lincoln Park/DePaul area provides intensive therapy for a variety of children with speech and language disorders, including children with 22Q and is directed by Speech-Language Pathologist, Judith A. LeDuc.

A little rain didn’t stop the Dempster family and over 230 other walkers from putting on their walking shoes for the 2nd Annual Slow and Steady — a walk for 22q event on Saturday, August 21, 2010. The walk was held at the beautiful Lake Ellyn Park in Glen Ellyn, Ill.

A packed house of nearly 700 guests joined Cubs Pitcher Ryan Dempster and his wife, Jenny, for the first official fundraiser of The Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation –- The Dempster Foundation Casino Night and Concert on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at House of Blues Chicago to benefit the Foundation.

Fans, friends, fellow Cubs and neighborhood supporters came out Thursday, Dec. 17, to support the first official fundraiser of the Ryan and Jenny Dempster Family Foundation.
