22q at the Zoo Parent Partner Plan

If you are interested in taking the lead for May 22nd in your city/at your local zoo email Sheila Kambin at KAMBINS@email.chop.edu to be included on the Zoo Day updates.

  • Reach out to everyone you know (family, friends, teachers, doctors, your children’s classes, your neighbors, etc.)
  • Contact your local zoo for complimentary/discounted zoo tickets

Plan a fun activity during the two-hour span like face painting or music (but not obligatory) so folks will have something to gather around before heading off to see the animals – this can include or exclude lunch, either purchased or brown bagged, depending on the cost and zoo regulations

  • Send your logo and/or the local zoo’s logo (if they’ll let you) to include on the back of the T-shirt (front of the shirt will have 22q at the Zoo! World Wide Awareness Day! logo) – which Sheila will need by March 15; or we can simply include the name of the organization and the zoo location, just let us know your preference.
  • Order T-shirts by April 15 (drop dead deadline) through the International Foundation, which can be paid for online through PayPal – cost TBD.
  • Set your ticket price (depending on what price the zoo gives you… Set your own price for the 22q at The Zoo Day ticket plus t-shirt; any monies raised can be donated to any charity/foundation of your choice that supports the 22q11.2/DiGeorge/VCFS, or you can use the money for a 22q event in the future you’d like to plan!  It’s completely up to YOU!
  • Sell tickets in advance so everyone in attendance is guaranteed to be wearing the World Wide Awareness T-shirt throughout the day and beyond (consider ordering a few extra T-shirts just in case there are walk-ups on the day of the event)
  • Save any profits locally for future family functions or donate them to the International 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome Foundation, the Dempster Family Foundation, or other 22q charitable organization.
  • Distribute 22q Fact Sheets, which we will gladly supply, to all comers at the zoo that day (if the zoo is amenable)
  • At 2:22 PM all families whose kids are attending or interested in attending the Dragonfly Forest Camp can meet and greet; a Dragonfly Forest representative will be available in some locations (must be prearranged); and brochures will be available (optional)
  • Try to promote to TV and newspapers to get as much coverage as possible to spread awareness of 22q. Just call them…  News outlets love great public interest stories!!!
  • Take lots of photos/video so the fun can be shared worldwide!
